UP NEXT Aotearoa Art Fair 2025,

MD Gallery proudly presents ‘Mine To Mine’ - a collection of works on paper by Teresa HR Lane. Provoking questions regarding how information is consumed, this body of work offers a sharp and layered critique of the ways past and present intertwine, remapping how history is read, and interrogating construction and deconstruction of meaning in the modern world.

Mining an abundant archive of contemporary and historical imagery from Aotearoa and beyond, Lane’s practice ‘painting with paper, drawing with scissors’, uses mixed media collage to reframe and re-contextualise narratives. Assembling disparate fragments, Lane explores the collective illusion of paradise, known as ‘Gods Own’, challenging notions of legitimacy in cultural and political narratives.

The current body of work, Mine to Mine, provokes questions about how information is consumed, offering a sharp, layered critique of the ways past and present intertwine. This series also seeks to highlight the plight of the small and unseen—species often overlooked in our daily lives yet vital to the circle of life. Through this work, Lane draws attention to their vulnerability to extinction as a result of environmental degradation from practices such as deforestation, mining, and the introduction of predators, urging a deeper awareness of ecological fragility.
